Overview

The Khwai Concession (encompassing the community-managed Khwai Community Concession and adjacent private reserves like Khwai Private Reserve) and Moremi Game Reserve form a wildlife hotspot in the northeastern Okavango Delta, Botswana. Moremi, the Delta's only protected reserve (~5,000 km²), blends floodplains, lagoons, and mopane woodlands, renowned for its biodiversity: big cats (lion, leopard, cheetah), wild dogs, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and over 400 bird species. Khwai (~200,000 hectares total) borders Moremi to the north and Chobe to the east, offering similar game density but with fewer crowds, off-road driving, night drives, mokoro (dugout canoe) trips, and walking safaris—unavailable in Moremi. Wildlife roams freely across unfenced boundaries, with the Khwai River drawing herds year-round. This area shines for predators (reliable wild dog and leopard sightings) and cultural immersion in Khwai Village.
